Potential Speed Improvements

Post by RWAP »

One method we have been looking at has been assigning the Retro-Printer software to a specific CPU instance and CUPS to another one, which appears to speed things up and overcome some bottlenecks.

To try this you will need to do:
systemctl edit cups.service
This file should then start with:

Code: Select all

### Editing /etc/systemd/system/cups.service.d/override.conf
### Anything between here and the comment below will become the new contents of>

[Service]
CPUAffinity=2
CTRL x to save and exit.

Do the same with

Code: Select all

systemctl edit retroprinter.service
Where the file should start with:
This file should then start with:

Code: Select all

### Editing /etc/systemd/system/cups.service.d/override.conf
### Anything between here and the comment below will become the new contents of>

[Service]
CPUAffinity=1
CTRL x to save and exit.

Then enter:

Code: Select all

systemctl restart retroprinter
systemctl restart cups
Upload the new attached

Code: Select all

/etc/init,d/retroprinter
file

Code: Select all

update-rc.d retroprinter defaults
And that should do it - the Retro-Printer code should all run in CPU1 and CUPS in CPU2

Interested to hear about feedback on this.
