Centronics adapter cable wiring reversed?

Post by Electronics-CSL-UTAS »

The adapter cable I have has pins 1 to 18 wired to pins 1 to 18 alike but pins 19 to 36 are reversed. 19 goes to 36 and alike.
Is this correct or do I have a cable wired incorrectly.
Pins 1 and 2 were shorted at the Pi end of the cable as well with a loose strand from pin 2.

Any info would be appreciated before rewire it.

Cheers,
Phil

Hi Phil,

Yes, this is correct - the adaptor is used to correct a manufacturing fault with the v3 Retro-Printer Module (the factory managed to solder half of the pins on the connector in reverse!).

Thanks, I'll leave the cable as is.
The computer was not seeing the retroprinter attached as a printer, so hopefully it was just the shorted pin 1 and 2, or I have a system that needs 5V on pins 13.

Cheers,
Phil

Oops sorry about the stray strand of solder - these adaptors are made by hand..

What are you using the Retro-Printer with?

Just a quick comment that another customer has reported a stray strand on these hand-built adaptors (oddly enough between pins 1 & 2 again). I shall have words with Derek (who is kind enough to make these for me) to ensure that he does a better job of examining them!

Hi,

My, apollogies for bad workmanship of the Retro-printer v3 Centronics adapters.

I have fitted shrink wrap tubing on the internal soldered wire connections, which with prevent short circuit between the adapter solder wires terminals.

I have also changed my Soldering Station from a Tuloka 701C to a Hakko FX-888-D, which is giving better results.

If anyone has a problem with Centronic Adaptor, an exchange unit is available. Just send me a PM and I will do my best to sort the problem out.
Regards,
Derek
