Margins

Post by dimSim »

Hi
The manual says you can set the default margins to YES (and gives the margin data)

What happens if you say NO?

As an enhancement I would like to be able to set a bigger margin all round - even better to be able to set top, bottom, left, right separately.

Cheers

Now there's a good question!!

I shall have to look at my code to see what I was doing here..

Yes, I suppose being able to set custom margins is an idea - not something you could do on the original printer, but of course, margins varied between printer models

Having looked at the source code, at the moment, the default margins setting is only used to set the top and bottom margin.

On Epson printers, this was a DIP switch setting -

A4 Default Margin Top was 8.5mm and Default Margin Bottom was 13.5mm
US Letter Default Margin Top was 9mm and Default Margin Bottom was 9mm

If you set the default to No, then the top and bottom margin are set to zero.

Looking at the code, I realised that there are NO settings for A3 because the Epson manual did not include any settings for this.

So, yes, I need to add default margins for A3 and even A5 page sizes - presumably similar settings?

Being able to specify your own margins is also a good idea.

depends on the printer :D
the left Margin could be adjusted in the fanfold tractor fed machines by shifting the whole paper L-R
and top of form was also effectively manual by adjusting the paper and then that was the top after each FF.

And then of course line spacing :-) some were adjustable.

All nice to haves :D

There is a new setting in v3.15 of the software (currently experimental).

Edit the /root/config/default_margins

You can then set the margins in millimetres in teh following order:

left,top,right,bottom

Use a comma between each value.
