Escon R50 Brake Testing Machine

Post by RWAP »

A user in Belgium reported that when he used the Retro-Printer with his Raspberry Pi 2 Model B and connected it to his Brake Testing Machine (an ESCON R50 developed by Altesco in the Netherlands), the power drained from the Raspberry Pi.

The fix was simple, he disconnected diode D1 on the Retro-Printer module (on the top of the module, just behind the centronics connector), which deals with the 5V line.

Once disconnected, everything works fine.

We are investigating why some equipment may need that diode removing, but at least it was an easy fix!

It seems that some machines just do not handle the centronics port in the same way.
