EPSON LP-S300 ESC/page printer

Post by RWAP »

We are currently struggling with writing a new printer emulator for a customer who needs to replace an Epson LP-S300 laser printer. We managed to find a manual for the printer in Japanese and translated it but apart from saying it supports esc/page codes.

We cannot find any information on these control codes online and have raised a support ticket with Epson.

However we have been able to replicate the main code used by the user - a graphics mode - although oddly the band's of graphics are drawn bottom up rather than the more common top down!

We just need to figure out what causes a form feed as there is a second graph showing on page 1 which should appear on page 2 and therefore gets split over the page.

We have actually now managed to write the emulator which is specific to the clients' needs for this laser printer.

We have as yet, been unable to obtain any programming information for the ESC/Page control code set, so we had to backward engineer it for the client's specific output.

The form feed does appear to be the standard code, but the vertical DPI had to be adjusted to get the various tables/graphs to appear on the correct pages

One of my contacts has now forwarded a description of the EPSON ESC/Page programming codes. Oddly they do not reflect the code sequences being used for this printer (even though the manual for the printer clearly states that is uses ESC/Page and ESC/Page+ control codes!

The mystery remains - thankfully, the Retro-Printer module is working well for this particular client, and the LP-S300 printer emulator which we created handles enough control codes to create an output which reflects the original printouts.
