Genicom Tally T2340 printer

Post by RWAP »

Hot on the heels of the Mannesmann Tally MT600 Line Printer, we have been asked to look at emulating a Genicom Tally T2340 printer, which supports Epson, HP and MTLP printer control codes.

Unfortunately, the MTLP printer control codes are not based on the MT600 control set, so we will need to develop yet another emulator.

Initial investigations shows that these printers can even support a mixture of modes, such as MTLP+Epson ESC/P - which would explain why the initial capture shows a mix of rubbish and text (in the form of Epson graphics!)

We have made good progress with the emulation of this printer - currently we have a working MTLP + Epson emulation which is being tested by our customer. This printer also supports MTLP + PCL and MTLP + IBM ProPrinter modes but we have not implemented those yet, as they are not required for the customer's purposes.

It is certainly an interesting approach to emulation, as the additional MTLP printer control codes are designed to work without affecting the other emulations by using the "ESC [" sequence to begin a MTLP printer control code, although the ESC [ characters can also be replaced by the use of a single character 186.
